One thousand miles and counting
One of the goals I set this year is to run a 1,000 miles (and run every day for a year). I achieved the first goal today, a couple of months ahead of schedule.

Denver Nuggets 5k Race to the rim
A few years ago we did the Broncos 7k, this year the timing worked out so we could sign up for the 5k race to the rim. I thought we were going to finish inside pepsi center, but it turns out you just run through the building corridors, so not as good as finishing in the stadium.
It was hot today, 91 degrees but the boys and I set off quickly and despite the heat and a few stops for water we ran together and Cody managed to improve his 5k best time to 24:54 (8 minutes per mile pace).

Boulder Track Meet - Aug 16
The final track meet of the season featured an elite mile, but the boys stuck with sprints, and I ran the 200M to see if I could get the record back. It turns out that I am still faster than Tyler (for 2018 at least) as I managed to run faster than him.

Cody 26th in USA for Kumon reading, Tyler is no 1!
Not quite sure how it happened, but Tyler was the highest ranked student in the country for Kumon reading and Cody was 26th. This is all per grade.

Alan reaches his weight goal
At the start of the year I normally set a number of goals. This year one of them was to get my weight down to what it was when I was 16. It took me 8 months to do it, but I finally managed to get the weight down to 140lbs and made my goal. Probably because I also gave up coke, and crisps/chips as well!

Sunrise Stampede - Tyler and Alan take home 1st place in their age categories
Tyler and I have raced this for a few years now, and luckily we have been able to win our age categories. This year I managed to run a 12:40 for the 2 miles, and Tyler improved to a 13:43. Not sure how many more years I will finish ahead of Tyler.

Alan Subaru passes the 150,000 mile mark
My car is nearly 12 years old, and today it went past the 150,000 mark. Still some way to go to catch up Siew Gin.

Pearl St Mile
This is a race that I have thought about running for a long time. This year the timing worked out well and not only did I get to race, but the boys also got to take part in the kids race.
Tyler took home 1st place and Cody 18th place out of 97 kids in their race, and I managed to finish 96th out of 163 in the 'A' race. Sounds slow, but I did run a 6:07 mile!

National night out - boys in the paddy wagon
Each year Broomfield has a national night out where the services (fire, police, municipal) put on various shows. The highlight is usually the burning building demonstration, but this year they also got hauled off in a paddy wagon.

Cody and Tyler both move up in swimming
Cody and Tyler went to the bay for the end of season swim party. They also do move ups at this event and luckily for me Cody has now moved up to white group and to the same swim location as Tyler. Tyler also moved up to black group.

Boulder Track Meet - Aug 2
The boys took part in another track meet today. I also ran the 200M. Both the boys have done well this year, and Tyler finally managed to record a faster time than me in the 200M. So for the moment he holds the family record.

Cody makes his first state meet and Tyler goes as well
As luck would have it, the Colorado Swim State meet and the RMSG badminton competition was on the same weekend and the same location. This meant that I could attend both events and watch them swim. Siew Gin got to take them to swim on Saturday and Sunday, but as they were swimming late in the afternoon I could see them after setup and competition.
Cody got a few PB's. Tyler only managed a relay PB, but overall they had a lot of fun. We were particularly proud of Cody as the time standards are for 10&U and Cody qualified when he was 8.

Badminton at Westminster Rec Center
We started Boulder Badminton Club back in 2002 with just a few players. Today we had 70 people show up to play/practice. Over the next few months the floor will be replaced at the rec center, but hard to believe how big the club has grown.

Hardwood floor upgrade
We finally got rid of our bedroom carpets and replaced them with hardwood. Siew Gin and the boys were away so it was the perfect time to get it done. The boys helped me empty all the bedrooms and I ripped out the carpets, underlay and trim so we could save a few dollars!
Damith also installed fans in the boys bedroom with a little help from me. So overall a big improvement.

USA Tri 60
The Rocky Mountain State Games has a lot of events and athletes. This year I again was commissioner for badminton, but it just so happened that the indoor triathlon was held a few weekends earlier so all 3 of the boys (Alan, Cody, Tyler) could take part in this event.
For me it was a 10 minute swim (500 yards), 30 minute bike (15.8 miles) and 20 minute run (2.92 miles).
For Cody 5 minute swim (300 yards), 15 minute bike (6 miles) and 10 minute run (1 mile)
For Tyler 5 minute swim (350 yards), 15 minute bike (9 miles) and 10 minute run (1.18 miles)
I finished first in my age group, Tyler also finished 1st, and Cody (same age group as Tyler finished 2nd.
It was fun and we will try and do it again next year depending on schedule.
