Bolder Boulder 2017 - The Mills boys

This year Siew Gin didn't run with us, so it was just the boys who set off to try and break 1 hour and 30 minutes.  We started off pretty strong and despite the heat we did manage to run almost the whole way with a few stops for water, pictures and bacon.

The boys finished in 1 hour 27, and next year I suspect Tyler will run it on his own and try and break 1 hour!

At the start, Emma Coburn was the starter

Bolder Boulder 2017 - Alan

This year I have been suffering with knee pain while running which as diagnosed as jumpers knee which is strange as most runners get runners knee!  Needless to say, this reduced the amount of training I could do, but I thought I would still be able to run an okay time.

I set off a little slower than usual, and was able to hold a good solid pace all the way around the course, but I was definitely looking forward to the finish line at mile 5.

Overall I finished in 2122 place (out of 44,000) with a time of 46:54, so managed to beat my age again as well as Taco man.

Then it was back to the start line to race with the boys.

Cody attends Ace's birthday party

Cody went to X-Arena to attend his swimming buddy Ace's birthday party. This is a jungle gym type environment where they get to climb ropes, jump into ball pits and so on. Cody was pretty adventurous and enjoyed himself.

Denver Outlaws

We got some free tickets to see the Denver outlaws, so Tyler got to invite his friend Jude along and Cody got to invite Jonah along for the evening game.

The weather wasn't great, but the boys enjoyed themselves.  Not only did we get to watch the game, but we also saw Joey Chestnut eat 13.5 lbs of burritos in 10 minutes, followed by a pretty good firework show.

Cuda vs Lifetime swim dual meet

Cody and Tyler took part in a dual swim meet today.  This is a long course meet (50m pool), so I entered them in events they wouldn't normally do.  They were short of 10 and Unders for the relay, so Cody got added to both relay teams, and because the others in the team (including Tyler) were fast as well as Cody swimming well he also managed to get a state qualifying time.  The coaches were proud that he got the time aged only 7. Not sure how often 2 brothers are on the same relay team.

Cody got under 1 minute for 50 free (57.47) and was just over a minute for 50 fly (1:04), Tyler made it under 1 minute for 50 breast (58.97) and just over 3 minutes for 200 free (3:07).

Swimathon

Cody and Tyler took part in their annual swim club fundraiser tonight. They had a chance of swimming up to 200 laps, or as many as they could do in 2 hours.

Cody started off strongly, then got a blister and got cold, but managed a respectable 101 laps (2500 yards).

Tyler ploughed his way to 200 laps in just under 90 minutes.

School Field Day

The field day was postponed twice and then moved indoors, welcome to Colorado weather. So instead of the usual 3 hour field day, it was a 50 minute indoor one.  Tyler and Cody had different times, so I had to go to school twice to see them take part.

I will be good, let me out

Lions Club Relays

The boys had been practicing for about a month for relays, and were excited to take on the other schools in the district.  Unfortunately only Tyler got to compete, as just when Cody was getting ready to race, thunderstorms and lightning stopped the competition.

BBC Badminton Tournament

The boys had relay races the same day as the BBC tournament, so this year Siew Gin took them to the school relays and I ran the tournament.  We had our usual crowd of 80 plus people and the day went smoothly, so I got home earlyish for a change,

Boys Swim Steve Drozda, I do the timing console

The boys swam Steve Drozda swim meet in the morning.  I was in charge of the timing console. This meant that I was close to the action, but also responsible for the scoreboard displayed to everyone and a bunch of other things. Certainly more intense than just timing,

Cody managed to get a PB in his 100 Free, Tyler managed 3 PB's in 100 Free, 50 Back and 100 Fly.

Cody School Play

Cody has been practicing for a few weeks for his school play/musical and today we got to hear him sing and perform his one line!  He was quite good and seemed to enjoy the experience. The production is not as elaborate as Broomfield Academy was, but overall good.
