Gert's Visit

This weekend, my friend Gert drove up from Alburquerque to spend the weekend with us. It was nice to see him again after nearly a year.

Gert checking Tyler out..

I met Gert about 7 yrs ago in a beginner Salsa class. So, I thought it'd be a good reunion if we went for a dance when he was here. After some investigation(I texted Steffen), I found out that Quemando was playing at St Julien's on Friday. So, that's where we(Gert, Steffen, Halden and I) went. But alas, Gert didn't feel quite up to it and so, we left before the dance ended and went to get some dinner. We had a nice meal at the Boulder Chop House which was not as good as i remembered.

On Saturday, after a lazy morning, we headed into Boulder for a spot of lunch at the Dushanbe Tea house and then followed by a brisk walk along Boulder Creek. We finished our walk, went for a quick drink at Trident coffee house before it was time to meet up with Delina and her parents at Jax Fish House.

They screwed up our reservation and Delina was late but it worked out in the end. Jax Fish House had AWESOME seafood. I had a boat load of fresh oysters and jumbo sea scallops.. yummy! Ooh.. and crispy ahi rolls!! And their fried calamari was sooo good! Anyways, we had a great time with her parents despite our bad Spanish and their poor English.

On Sunday, we went to Los Cabos II which is our favorite Peruvian restaurant for their lunch buffet.. very good.. i'll have to write another blog on that. After lunch, Gert left for Alburquerque and I may see him again in May for Bolder Boulder..

I don't have many pictures of the weekend because i was an idiot and forgot to charge my camera!!!

My friends love my baby too!

I've often been asked if my life has much since I've had Tyler and I've always thought - no. Of course there are minor changes like takes a little longer to get out, more things to do at home, but apart from that, our life hasn't changed too much. We still go play badminton twice a week, have friends over, go out for dinner, plan events etc. OK, one thing that is missing is probably going for movies. But once we find that babysitter, we'll go!

But I think this is all down to my group of friends who loves Tyler too. They are always more than happy to help with carrying and entertaining him when we're around and also do their best to accomodate us. For that, I'm so happy and thankful for...

Uncle Steffen - image protector(drool wiper)

Tia Delina - full of loving words in Spanish!!

If your picture is not here, doesn't mean I don't appreciate your help.. i just don't have your picture!! :)

What's this, mom? Bad hat week???

I was looking at the pictures we took of Tyler this week and one phrase sprang to mind. I don't know what it's from but Alan might know it - "It's a bad hat, Harry!"

So here are the final 3!

Lunch with the Japanese group

Some table decorations and my bowl of tea

A few weeks ago, Armen invited me to join him and his Japanese friends for lunch at a traditional Japanese restaurant in Denver. I, of course, was more than happy to join him!

We went to Domo which is located in Downtown Denver. It was a tucked away little restaurant which had a lot of charm to its own. It was decorated in a rustic Japanese sorta way with wooden blocks as stools and had dried fungus as table ornaments.

I invited my friend Ken to join us as he was in Denver that day. As we both couldn't decide what to get, we got 3 set lunches between the two of us! I ordered Spicy Raw Maguro(tuna), he had some seafood in soup thing(I can't remember what its called) and then we also wanted to try the famous Japanese staple food - Nato, which is fermented soy bean.

Spicy Maguro with side dishes and Tomoko..

The food came with little side dishes which i've never had in a Japanese restaurant and they were yummy.. must go back.

After lunch, we took a quick look at the Japanese garden outside the restaurant and couldn't resist a group picture. Tyler was with me that day but he slept thru the whole eating process.. what a good boy!! hehe...

Group picture.. i can't believe there was no "peace" sign on any of these Japanese.. they must be fake!!

Veronica and I have always tried to make the effort to meet up for lunch whenever we can and with our crazy work schedules and sick days, we finally got to meet up this Sunday.

We met up for a delicious brunch at the Boulder Cafe and had a good time comparing notes about our new bundle of joy!

Tyler 20 weeks update

My baby's grey-eyed days officially over...

Our Tyler is going to be 20 weeks old this week. So here are some updates of his recent development(or non-development in some cases)

1) Our skinny monkey has not reached 14 lbs as of last Wednesday. But the doctor doesn't seem too concerned as he is not skin and bones. He just said we should try to feed him more if possible(as if we've been holding back!!). To make things worse, he's developed a serious disgust for formula milk which we use to supplement to try to boost his weight gain. I'm too weak willed to force it down him, so Alan is on formula duty these days.

2) Also to help with his weight, we have started him on solids which made me very pleased. I'm all about developing his variation in food. He doesn't take very much of it yet. Seems to get fed up halfway thru the feeding. I can't believe i have a kid that doesn't like to eat!! What a disaster!!!!

Tyler getting his first taste of solid food but unfortunately he seemed much more interested in the bowl

3) He is grabbing better and is reaching for items out of his reach.

4) Alan is quite determined in getting his son to sit and stand as soon as possible, so he's getting lots of practice in.

Tyler during one of his sitting up practice sessions..

5) He's "found" his feet according to Alan. I never quite understand this whole finding hands and feet business.. how is finding something that's on you an accomplishment??

6) He taken to talking REALLY loudly. Every morning he'll babble away at the top of his lungs from the time he wakes up(quite annoying when you're trying to steal a little more sleep) till when he's going to the daycare. Then he usually just falls asleep in the car. We took him to the restaurant this weekend and he was going on on his own like he was singing(but no tune). There goes our hope of sneaking into a movie theatre with a quiet baby!!!

7) He also seems to interract better and tries to kiss his mommy. I think he's just trying to put my head in his mouth.. :)

My baby and I

8) He seems to be also interested in books. Here is a cute picture of Damith and Tyler. I got a real kick watching Damith reading to him. It was so adorable.

As the days fly by...

I can't believe it's been that many days since I last blogged and I've had a few people comment on my lack of updates. So, here it is..

My house is rented out! Woo hoo!! Haven't seen much of my renters which, I guess, is good.

Tyler and I are completely recovered from our cold but poor Alan is still hacking away and has had to go back to the doctors twice. But is slowly but surely getting better.

Have been completely busy with work which is the main reason for the lack of blogging.

Anyways, I'm sure you guys are really looking for pictures and updates on Tyler, so, i'll post some in the next post.

Missing for 2 weeks

Life has been quite crazy for the last 2 weeks which explains why I haven't been blogging for some time. But here I am, getting a minute to myself again!
So, here's the brief scoop on what's going on:

Tyler and I are finally better from our cold. He did get an ear infection at some point. Poor baby.. and trying to feed him antibiotics was exciting. But he seemed to take it fine when Alan tried to feed him.

My tenants moved out giving me only 1 weeks notice and so I had to scramble around trying to get new tenants, show the house to future tenants, deal with old tenants moving out etc. And after they FINALLY moved out, I was busy getting cleaners, carpet cleaners, plumbers, tilers, poop scoopers(!!!) into the house to get it ready for the new tenants(yay!!). I had also spent a couple of nights going thru the house touching up the paint jobs, cleaning the basement till 1 am. So, I was very tired to say the least. But it was at least convenient that the rental house was just right next door!! Alan was a great help when it came to fixing some of the broken screens and cracked sinks and of course being at home when people needed to access the house!!! He is becoming quite the DIY guy! But the good news is, the new tenants are in and hopefully they will be better than the last batch.

Anyways, on social events.. let's see.. oh, we went to a Korean Restaurant last weekend with a bunch of friends whom i call my "eating machines" and had some yummy korean food and after that they came by to sing Karaoke at our house till late at night. We found out we were completely rubbish at singing after listening to Steffen's friend, Brooke and my friend Ken sing.

My fellow eating machines..

Food galore.. and no, that's not Tyler.. that's Sophia..
