Tyler graduates 1st grade, retires another teacher

Tyler graduated 1st grade today, he got a prize for his athletic ability and said goodbye to Ms Alexander who is retiring, some say because she had to teach Tyler for a year.

Cody has a day with Daddy

Cody had the day off from school as he has graduated, so we took a quick trip to the local fire station to check it out, then from there we headed to the WOW museum in Lafayette.

Cody seemed reluctant to go through the gate, but once inside he warmed up and did nearly everything (apart from the sandpit!)

We finished off with Snarfburger which he seemed to enjoy.

Are we going to the zoo?

Of course I can blow a big bubble, even if the floor is slipperier than I thought

It is a little high daddy.  I think I am ready to get down now daddy

Not sure if it will stay up on its own

Bolder Boulder 2015 - Run number 1

I got my first Bolder Boulder run in this morning. I was in a later wave, but started earlier so I guess they had more people than ever sign up.  The last few weeks the weather has been very rainy here, but luckily on the day, there was no sign of rain, and temperatures were just right for the run.

I was around 40 seconds slower than last year probably due to my last mile being quite slow (my 5k split was only 2 seconds slower), but still managed to run under my age and make it back to the start to do the second run with the family.

Managed to run under my age!

12th Annual Boulder Badminton Tournament

This year was our 12th BBC Tournament, and we finished ahead of schedule for a change, despite having 95 players and a 150 matches. Even setup was done quickly the night before.  Tyler and Alan competed in Men's doubles losing to the eventual winners and Siew Gin got to play in mixed and ladies doubles, bring home a gold.

Cody and Tyler Swim Pizza Meet

Cody has joined the same swim team as Tyler and today was his first swim meet.  He was signed up for 2 events, Tyler was signed up for 4.  We had been working on Cody all week so he was ready to compete, and we got Tyler to help Cody with where to go and what to do.

Cody did very well, his 25 back was just over 34 seconds, and his 25 free was just over 31 seconds, so under 30 is achievable.  He finished second in both his races.

Tyler is an old hand at Pizza meets, and took home three 1st places and one second place. He is getting very close to going under 2 minutes for 100 IM.

Tyler and Cody Swimathon

Each year the swim team has a swimathon to raise money for the team.  They raise money and get to swim for 2 hours or 200 lengths (of a 25 meter pool) whichever comes first.

Tyler and his friend Riley (who is 10) set out at a frantic pace to see if they could get to 200, Cody and his friends Kristen and Mila (who are in Tyler's class at Hulstrom) set out at a more leisurely pace.

Cody was one of the first out of the water, but he still managed an admirable 38 lengths.  Tyler had bruised toes but managed to get to 200 laps with a few minutes to spare.

I was really proud of them both. That is a lot of swimming.

Can I get a picture of the two of you?

Really, Can I get just one normal picture?

Ready to start

Tyler and Cody swim goal follow up

Coach Lauren reviewed the boys swim goals, and wrote her own little essay back for the boys to read and work on.

A lot of instructions for a five year old!

Tyler passes DII reading in Kumon

Tyler passed his DII reading test today.  Surprisingly fast, if only he was this quick the other 6 days of the week!

Good Score and time!

Tyler competes in his first school relay race

I signed Tyler up to compete for his school in the district relay races.  He went to practice and was fast enough to be selected for both the boys and coed team.  It wasn't exactly what you would call a rolling baton exchange on the day, but Tyler and his team did enough to win both of their races.

The funniest part was Tyler standing to attention ready to go when the gun started. I guess all that training and listening finally paid off.

Tyler and Cody Movie night

There was a high school swim meet at BCC (where the boys swim), so their swim practice was changed into movie and ice cream night.  They told me they enjoyed it!
