Cuda Classic swim meet

The boys took part in the Cuda Classic this weekend. There was an early Saturday session and an early Sunday session.

Both of them scored a bunch of personal bests. Cody finally broke 2 minutes for 100 freestyle and also got down to 21.7 seconds for 25 free.  Tyler is getting closer and closer to state qualification.

Broken Car

I was bringing the boys home from piano today when the idler pulley broke on my car.  This meant we had to get the tow truck to take us to the garage. The boys got to ride in a tow truck and I got to hand over cash to get it fixed. They got the better end of the deal.

Tyler skates at his friend Matthews Party

Tyler went to skate city for his friend Matthew's birthday party on Sunday. This was in the middle of superbowl playoff games, so we left Tyler there and watched the game. He did tell us that he skated so fast that he broke his skate wheel.

Free day at the zoo

After our first day of swimming at the Cuda classic we went to the zoo as they had a free day. Everyone else had the same idea, so we drove round for about 10 minutes trying to find a spot. Eventually we parked and headed in to check out some of the exhibits before it got too cold.

Winter Park Skiing

The boys had a day off school today, so I took them to Winter Park to ski,  The weather was great, not too cold, some sun and no snow.  Because it was a week day there was very few people on the slopes and we managed to complete nearly all of the green runs at the resort.  Cody is ready for blues, and Tyler is ready for black runs, but they could both probably do with some lessons.

Fish and Chips after track meet

Siew Gin promised Tyler fish and chips after he volunteered to play the piano at the retirement community home christmas show. (Sounds grander than it is).  So after the boys had taken part in an indoor track (Athletics) meet, we stopped by the localish fish and chip shop so that Tyler could get his reward.

Cody and Tyler take part in an indoor track meet

The boys took part in the Colorado all comers indoor (3 lane) track meet this weekend.  There were a lot of clubs there, but we were running as individuals.  This is not as well organized as swimming, but despite that the boys had fun mixing it with some good athletes.  Cody did the 60m and 200m, Tyler did the 60m, 400m and 800m.

Cody completes a 100IM at the Pizza Meet

Cody has been working hard on his swimming and at the January Pizza Meet he took part in 4 events, finishing with the 100IM. He completed it in 2 minutes 11 seconds which is pretty fast for a 7 year old.

No Slow Sledding

We finally had a little bit of snow today, so the boys decided they wanted to go sledding.  When we got to our normal hill, there was more frost than snow, but they persevered and eventually managed to get enough ice on the sled to make it go down the hill.

Taking down the decorations

With the threat of cold weather coming, we took down the indoor and outdoor decorations today. Cody was a little sad that the Christmas tree this year wasn't a fake one as in previous years.

New Year Resolutions

Last year I set a resolution of not having a coke for the entire year.  I managed to keep to my resolution and had my first coke as the new year turned to 2017. Funny thing is that after a year I thought I would have enjoyed it more than I did, and now I don't know if I will want to drink more in 2017.

I gave the boys the challenge of running 100 miles by the time the school year ends (which coincides with Bolder Boulder). They have to run roughly 20 miles a month, or 5 miles a week.  This first week it has been snowy, but they have been running outdoors in the snow.
