Kid's birthday cake

Every year i stress out about the kids' cake for their combined party and kill myself making a cake for each of them. This year, i thought i'd be smart and make them a cake they can share but still have their own "individuality". So, i set out to plant ideas in their heads starting with their Halloween costume. It worked! :)

We decided on Batman and Robin theme and i searched the web for the perfect cake. In the end, i combined a few ideas and came up with this! This allowed them to both have one side each. And personally i found it pretty funny! :)

As i had to try something new each time, i decided to try out a 2-tier cake!! It really isn't as hard as i thought it was going to be!!! Went to bed at 3 am(including cleaning).

The bottom tier was made with 4 layers of butter/chocolate layers with cream cheese frosting with 1 layer of strawberry. It is frosted with yellow cream cheese frosting with fondant building. The top tier was made with 2 layers of pineapple cake with cream cheese frosting. The outer shell is all fondant. Figurines are not edible.

Building ships at Home Depot

We had another chance to go to Home Depot today for their kids workshop. They kids got to build a ship. Now that they are good at this, they are becoming quite the pro! :)

Package from Malaysia

The grandparents from England are more well known for sending the kids gifts. So much so, they equate Santa Claus to Grandma! But with some requests for pencil cases(the Asians have the best pencil cases) from me this time, the Malaysian grandparents delivered big! Funnily enough, the kids got very excited about their pencil cases because they don't really have cool pencil cases here.

Cody's 4th Birthday

For Cody's birthday, we still ALL had to wake up early as Tyler goes to school early. He got his own birthday cupcake and a bunch of presents from us and the grandparents. His favorite was the piggy bank!!

Later that morning, we also brought cupcakes to his class to share with his friends. He seemed to enjoy that very much. :)

Halloween 2013

Halloween is a very busy day for us. We had 2 school parties in 2 different schools to attend. One was in Tyler's school and the other in Cody's.

After delivering cupcakes to Cody's school, i ran over to watch Cody's class in action. Cody's class is a VERY quiet class. Nothing compared to Tyler's class at that age!! Anyways, they had a low key Halloween celebration which was basically consuming a large amount of sweets and a small parade.

And after school and after a quick dinner, we went trick-o-treating in our neighborhood. It was a pretty chilly night and we only last about 15 mins(~10 houses)!!!

Tyler's 6th Birthday

Crazily enough, Tyler is now 6 years old. For his birthday, all of us woke up extra early to wish him and sing him a birthday song before he went to school. He also got to open all his presents and of all the presents he got, he was most excited about his $2 sword!!

As it was Halloween, he also got a big party in his class in which we brought in cupcakes for. He seemed really happy to stand in front 40 people and getting them to sing for him!! Maybe being born on Halloween isn't such a bad thing after all!

And after school, he got to dress up and go trick-o-treating with us and Siobhan! That's on another post

Monster cupcakes for the kids birthday

This year, for the kids school birthday parties, i decided on Monster cupcakes. I found them very cute and thought it'd be a change from the usual Halloween items like witches, pumpkins, mummies etc.

For Tyler, i opted for a 2-eyed monster which ended up looking like a dog. Tyler chose blue and orange for the colors and i was off to make them. He seemed pleased with them. I arranged them in a new cupcake tier that i recently got and all the kids in school thought they were pretty neat, though i'm willing to bet most of the kids ate the lollipop and peach trolli and the cupcake ended up in the trash!

After making 50 eyes for ALL of Tyler's cupcakes, i was beginning to think this whole monster thing wasn't such a good idea after all. But luckily for me, Cody decided he only wanted one eye for his monster and there are only 9 students compared to Tyler's 25!!

Cody chose green, purple and red cupcakes. I did a slight change to make them look monster-y but now they look like potted plants!!! Maybe monsters are not THAT easy to make!!
