I had a meeting to attend in Colorado Springs with Steffen, and he suggested that we get up early and hike the
Manitou Incline. This is a 1 mile uphill using railroad ties as steps and gains over 2000 feet, so pretty steep (in some places 68%).
We managed a good time, 42 minutes (36 minutes of hiking and 6 minutes of resting on the way). Once at the top, we took the Barr trail down, which is around 5 miles of downhill trail. This took us around 50 minutes, so clearly uphill was very steep.
Maybe next time I am in the area I will attempt it again. It appears that late afternoon is the best time as it is cooler and less people.
