Noodles baby!!

Steffen and I were having ramen for dinner tonight and Tyler was very intrigued with all the slurping sounds that Steffen was making(i know, how rude!!).

Soon, he also wanted to be just like his new best friend(must have bonded during the 1 hr babysitting duty!!). Alas, his interest in noodles only lasted 2 noodles!!

Check it out mom!

uh oh.. it's on the floor..

I think Uncle Steffen was doing it this way.. ssllluuurrrrrrpppppp...

Tyler's new bike!

Tyler has been showing lots of interest in bicycles lately. If he sees one in the park, he would go and touch it and try to push it around.

So, i went out and got him a little tricycle for him to learn to ride. He doesn't quite reach the pedals and i think only one of his foot can reach the ground.

Here are some picture of our little rider.

Look mom, i'm riding a bike!

I can even push myself backwards.. oops..

Or push it like a cart!!!

I think i would get a kick from this picture in many many years to come!

My new hobby

My friend Emilio who is also known as the man of 10 thousand hobbies has convinced me to join in his hydroponics fun. I was his easiest target, so of course i agreed. All he had to do was show me some plants growing and i started panting.

So, here is what i have at work. hehehee.. aren't they cute?

The front is basil and back ones are Italian parsley

I never thought watching plants grow could possibly be exciting. Not sure if that's any indication of my sad life or what?

I, on the other hand, also convinced Emilio to enter the world of blogging. Check out my links on the side. -->

Marena comes to visit

One of our old friends from Chicago was in town and popped in for a quick visit. We knew Marena back when Alan was living in Chicago and she was one of the high school kids hanging out with the old farts in badminton.

Marena and John brought Tyler and I some Chicago Cubs shirts and some other cute toys for Tyler.

We had some Pizza, hot wings and potato skins and had a nice time watching Tyler running around being silly!

Check out the table again!!

New Table

The food experts suggested a new feeding method to try go get Tyler to eat. Here are the rules:

1) Food and milk only allowed during meal times
2) Must sit at table with no other distractions
3) Must not eat alone(in the end, we'll be 300 lbs and he'll still be 17 lbs)

So, because of this, I(Alan doesn't know it, but he's paying for it) bought a new table for the kitchen.

Steffen was very kind to go get the table and even assembled it for me(what a fantastic son). Damith and Sabrina who happened to stop by also joined in the assembly fun. Tyler of course tries to "help".

OK, i'll hold and you can screw it in..

I think it's pretty sturdy..

Since i didn't lift a finger to help, i cooked them dinner and we got to enjoy their fruit of their labor.

If we knew how to take a picture with timer, i'll be in the pic too..

Thanks you guys!

Car ride with Mateo

Tyler and I missed out on the weekly hike on Sunday and decided to go hang out with Mateo for a few hours. We got to play with Mateo's exciting cars. It is quite the hilarious scene to watch Tyler push the automatic drive button and jerks forward 2 inches every 3 seconds.

Car envy at this age??

Looking at pictures together, Tyler's gift to Alan.. ($20)

Breakfast birthday cake singing.. ($10)

Opening of presents and cards from all over the world.. ($xxx)

I know this doesn't quite look like a suprise party, but it was. I told him we were going out for dinner and dropping Tyler off at Damith's. It worked! Phew!!! That was hard work not being able to talk normally for so many days!!!

The surprise party crew!! Good Job!! ($XXXX!!)

Real funky birthday cake.. ($30)

Cake and card from the group. ($7)

Watching our son eat cake - priceless

What i did for Dada's birthday..

It is almost expected of me that I make a cute card for Dada for any special occasion. So, of course i got clever mommy to help. She's very good with the camera and i'm very good at posing.

I told her I'll pretend to be Dada and tell him that i wanted to be just like him and she said that was a very good idea. So, here are some pictures of me posing and trying to be Dada.

What do you think?

On conference calls, looking all serious

Putting on running shoes to go for a run

I think they fit quite well

Playing badminton in old badminton clothes!

Lazing around enjoying a book..

Oh, this is just me smiling..

And last but not least...

Here's my 1 finger typing action..

Daddy's Birthday Breakfast

We awoke to snow to celebrate Alan's Birthday !! Tinky was chief assistant card and present opener and had with Siew Gin's help created a card of all the things that Daddy does, including badminton, running and reading.

After we had opened a few cards upstairs and looked at Tyler's photo's we moved downstairs for the present bucket. The birthday contents seemed to be split into two halves, first half was food and beverage related, the second half clothes

The three of us then posed for a group picture

And then last, but not least Tyler made sure there wasnt any presents left in the bucket..

Looking forward to a night out to celebrate being old...

Dada's Birthday!

Hello, this is Tyler again. This is a surprise blog from me to Dada! Hope he'll like it.

Happy Birthday to the best Dada in the world!

Tyler xx

Third hike of 2009 - Meyers Homestead

We have been to Walker Ranch many times to hike, but have never taken this side route that follows the old Meyers Homestead trail. This is a gentle 5 miler that has 500 foot elevation gain and ends overlooking Boulder Canyon and the continental divide.
Alan, Sabrina, Damith, Dave and Tony were the intrepid 5 who undertook this trail, with the thought that once complete they could partake of Pho (Duy) back in Broomfield...
Great views at the end of the trail, and nice weather to complete the hike

Start of the trail

Second Hike of 2009 - South Boulder Peak

Steffen and Alan decided they would do a quick hike early Sunday Morning. What would be better than attempting South Boulder Peak which at 8,549 feet is the tallest in Boulder County just edging out Bear Peak which we did last year. Only problem was the clocks changed and Alan was going to do a second hike that day with Damith, Sabrina, Dave and Tony.

We met at the TH at 6:30 and were hiking by 6:35, starting elevation of 5,645 feet. It was still dark so we needed headlamps for the first forty minute or so. The first few miles were easy, then it climbs close to 2,000 feet in a little over a mile.

At 8am we had planned to turn around, due to the second hike, but we were very close to the saddle, and Sabrina called to ask about carpooling so I requested a 30 minute extension to complete this hike.

Once we made it to the saddle the ground was covered in snow and ice which made the journey to the summit harder than expected.

We made it to the top just before 8:30, stopped to take a few pictures then hurried down the trail, sliding in a few places where snow was icy until we made it back to the car around 9:45.

Should be able to shave some time off the trip next time...

Skiing Key Stone

As a nice gesture to his darling wife, Alan agreed to look after our little tinks while I get to go skiing with Steffen for the day. Woo hoo!

But when I had to drag myself out of bed at 5:30 am to meet Steffen, my Woo hoo was more of a Boo hoo!! But to flake out was a price i am not ready to pay, so up I went(not without multiple kicks from Alan to get me out of bed, mind you).

A quick cup of tea later, Steffen arrived on time of course and we were on the road at 6 am sharp(just to prove Damith wrong). The drive to Key Stone was smooth and we were there waayyyy earlier than many others. After a yummy breakfast, we joined the queue for the gondola up the mountains.

It was a beautiful day of skiing(Did I mention the person asked me if i wanted a child ticket?? ha!). As it was my first time at Key Stone, Steffen took the lead on the selecting the runs for the day. I was slightly worried as I've missed out 2 seasons of skiing, but i guess skiing is also one of those things you don't forget and soon i was trying my best to keep up with Speedy Gonzalez Steffen(not very successful).

We managed to do 6 runs and multiple sides of the mountain by lunch time and I was quite happy to stop while I was ahead. Steffen did one extra one while i headed off to the restaurant and it started blizzarding! Was I glad to be inside.

After lunch, the sky cleared a little and we took our last run of the day. All my blood must have gone to my stomach, because my legs didn't really work. It was a little painfully slow for Steffen but I was happy i stayed on my feet all the way to the end!! :)

A good day of skiing makes everybody smile!!!

A night out with the gang - Oceanaire

Hans has been banging on the infamous bacon steak from Oceanaire for a couple of weeks that when he told us, he had reservations for Oceanaire, all of us signed up. He actually had to expand his reservation from 6 person to 12 person!

Alan and I got a babysitter and we went out for some pre-dinner drinks(strawberry malt) to relax and to discuss strategies to fatten up our son. A plan was hatched.

Alan and I getting cozy..

We got to the restaurant about 10 pm(I know, how ridiculous!!) and I was immediately ready to order. Once everybody arrived, ordering began and Alan and I found ourselves the only people in the group who didn't order from of the set menu. What boring friends we've got! And yes of course, the bacon steak was ordered.

Hans can't wait to get hold of the bacon steak

Food came and reviews went from good(my scallops) to bad(Alan's lamb) to terrible(Hans returned 2 marlins). The others gave their grunts of mediocre-ness. Even the bacon steak did not live up to expectations.

However, that did not stop us from having a good time :)

Goof balls in the group...

I should hang out with other adults to see if they goof about as much as us kids!!

Truly Daddy's boy

Maybe it's absense makes the heart fonder, maybe it's genetics, but Tyler is truly his Daddy's Boy!

What truly broke my heart was when I saw that he also loved ketchup *cringe*, just like his Daddy.

Caught in the act (both of them)

But hey, if that makes him eat, i'm OK with that!

First Hike of 2009 - Eldorado Springs

Tyler has been telling us for some time that he wants to hike a 14er, so we decided to start early in the season to build his strength up. The MLC gang also wanted to hike as well so we chose a nice and simple one to start.

A group picture at the trailhead

A quick family photo op

Tyler did pretty well and is looking forward to his next one..

Tyler on the trails!

Tyler also liked his new sunglasses and kept them on for a change

What a cutie!!
