The boys were invited to the Marker boys party on Saturday and luckily for Cody it was a fire theme, so the boys got to build a firetruck, eat fireman hot dogs and pin the fireman on the truck as well as celebrate Chase and Jackson's birthday.
Last time we went to Winter Park, the drive was horrible, and Cody bailed out of his ski lesson after a few minutes, so I didn't get the chance to ski with Tyler. This time we opted for traveling up on Tuesday, then staying overnight so that Cody would be all set.
The weather was much better, almost too warm, and Tuesday afternoon Tyler and I went on the bunny slope with Cody to build his confidence.
We got a bargain deal at Winter Park Chateau and had Irish pub food that night after Kumon, so the boys were all set for skiing on Wednesday. Cody went off to do his lesson, with a bit of crying to start, and then Tyler and I shot off to explore and ski the real mountains.
In the afternoon after lunch we caught up with Cody in the middle of the mountain so his lesson must have done something for him (perhaps 2015 is the year the whole family gets to ski together).
Cody and Tyler had the week off, so we tried to do something each day, Monday was the wildlife experience because we were in the area and we had some free tickets.
It is actually pretty well done, with moving animal models, interactive pieces and so on, however it is small and the whole thing can be done in an hour, so we added on the 3D movie. The boys complained of course that it wasn't really 3D as nothing came out of the screen.
Tyler is required to play in a few events each year for his piano. And I'm quite surprised that he's quite willing to play in them. The teacher must have the right persuasive voice.
So, this week he played at the National Federation of Music Clubs. We think it's a little like a test to make sure your teacher is actually teaching you something.
Anyways, i was slightly surprised with the results that he got back. I suspect they were being very kind and is trying to encourage him to play some more. But he seemed pleased.
Cody passed his Kumon Reading 3A test today, so he was super excited to get his reward of a fire helicopter. Not sure what we will do when he passes his math test in a week or so...
Tyler passed his Mid February and got a doughnut, so Cody got the better end of the deal I think.
A quiet birthday this year, with some special guests, and lamb instead of steak. Not to mention of course pancakes on my actual birthday. All in all a great time, thanks to Siew Gin to cooking the food, getting the cake and making sure Tyler and Cody wished me happy birthday..
We haven't seen Mateo in donkey ears and decided it was time for the 2 kids to get reunited. So, lucky for us Adam had signed up for craft time at Lowe's ahead of time. So, Tyler and Mateo got to make a bird house together.
Then we headed down to Denver to go visit the Children's Museum. The two boys seemed to have tons of fun exploring different stations and Adam and I reminisced about the boys being really little and wondering in some of the rooms.
Oh, while at the museum, they also got to see some Lego Masters put some design together. Quite exciting for them!
Last year, i remember Tyler asking me if i can sew him a Dr. Seuss hat the day before his school event. So, of course i couldn't do anything. But this year, i actually saw a week ahead of time and decided that could be a cool and easy sewing project to do. So, i did!!
Here are the Dr. Seuss hat that i sewed for them! They were quite happy to pose with it. You can't fake those smiles!!
Anyways, Cody actually wore his hat to school for Dr. Seuss's birthday party while Tyler decided at the last minute that he was NOT going to wear it!!!! And they both had green eggs and ham!
They are such a bunch of goof balls!
And for those who are not familiar with Dr Seuss books, the hat is based on this character.
Cody finally figures out how to blow a balloon today! Yay! Not sure when they are supposed to know how to blow one. But we were blowing lots of balloons for Tyler's science project and he took one and his face was so surprised when it actually inflated. And he was sooo proud! hehe..
As its's quite a big pain to try to make a day trip for skiing, i'm trying out a few configurations. This weekend, we decided to drive up super early in the morning, ski for the day, stay over in Winter Park, ski a little more on Sunday and start driving back after lunch to try to avoid the horrible traffic.
But all things went wrong. It snowed on Saturday, turning the roads to the ski areas a disaster to drive in and Cody had puked 3 times on the way. By the time we got there for his class, he cried and complained about being tired. Half an hour later, the instructors called us to tell us that he is not participating, so we had to go get him. Grrr..
And it snowed hard that day, so Tyler and I also gave up after 2 hrs of skiing(he says it's too powdery!!). We admitted defeat and headed to the YMCA to rest and the kids went to the pool. I don't know where they get their energy because i passed out on the bed!
That night we went on a sleigh ride dinner at the YMCA that was super cold. The kids somehow still enjoyed the experience. As we sat in the cold barn waiting for our food, Cody asked if we were in a "posh restaurant" because we had candles on the table! Ha! Anyways, food was OK though Tyler really enjoyed his steak and bread.
That night our friend Sapna and Vivek who happened to be in Winter Park joined us at our hotel as we had an extra bed. The boys took them on a few games of UNO before turning in for the night.
Horrid drive in

But still needs Daddy's help to cut it
All of us
Sapna and Vivek came to stay with us for the night
The next day, Cody went to try out the bunny hills with Daddy while Tyler, Vivek and I headed up the mountain for a free class. Unfortunately Vivek couldn't be in the same class as us. So, Tyler and I went off with the instructor to learn how to properly do some parallel turns. The instructor was strict and tough and Tyler did much better than me. He pushed Tyler hard and expected me to follow suit. I could barely keep up!! So, after the class, i have to say Tyler's skiing was better than mine!!(of course i didn't tell him that!)
Cody a little more willing the next day
On Bunny Hill
Look at that face!
Skiing with Vivek
Anyways, i'm not sure this configuration works, so, we'll have to try another configuration next!
And here are some videos of the boys' skiing:
Here's Tyler skiing at the end of the day. He's finally doing the skating and his skis are more parallel than before! Amazing what 1 class can do!
