Measuring the rain

The last few days we have had a lot of lightning, thunder and rain, so the boys wanted to measure how much rain was coming down.

So we did a small experiment with a cup and some maths to work out that the hour we measured it was 0.36 inches of rain.  The local report showed 0.61 inches for the whole evening, so our calculation was pretty good.
